Job Description

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely closing of the books, financial reporting, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader with strong technical accounting skills, a data-driven mindset, and a bias for action. You thrive in fast-paced environments, bring a sense of urgency, and are passionate about building high-performing teams and scalable processes. The salary range for this role is $150,000.00 - $170,000.00, dependent on relevant education, experience, and other factors. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the monthly financial close activities by running a disciplined close process and coordinating activities and analysis with teams across the finance organization.
  • Own the full-cycle accounting processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, month-end closing and reporting, audit and tax preparation, and more.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Lead and manage the accounting team.
  • Coordinate the accounting implementation of acquisitions, including purchase accounting
  • Provide interpretation and application of accounting procedures, principles, and pronouncements under GAAP
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of annual audits with external auditors.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules.
  • Oversee and ensure sales tax compliance and other state tax compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities and challenges.
  • Participate in the development of strategies to improve accounting operations effectiveness, including the development and execution of organizational, process, and system changes.
  • Develop staff goals and key performance indicators to measure performance and ensure the department is performing at a high level.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven leadership in managing accounting teams
  • Experience in a mid-sized private equity-backed company ($100+ million in annual revenue).
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, WIP schedules, and job costing principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all levels and remote teams.
  • High integrity, dependability, and a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • Proficiency in Vista Viewpoint or equivalent construction accounting software.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting ERP conversions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, and other Microsoft Power Platform tools.
  • Experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and partnering with senior leadership.
  • Ability to identify and drive process improvements across financial operations.

Education, License and Experience:

  • BS in Accounting or Finance, MBA highly desirable
  • Active CPA license required
  • 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in the construction industry.

  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for data input.
