Location 37101 Newark Blvd Newark, 94560 Description The City of Newark is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly professional City Clerk to lead and manage the operations of the City Clerk’s Office. This key leadership position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the City’s official records, ensuring transparency in local government, and safeguarding public information. The City Clerk oversees the preparation and maintenance of City Council agendas and minutes, directs municipal elections, administers the City’s Records Management Program, and serves as the Filing Officer for the Fair Political Practices Commission. The role also includes managing ordinances and municipal codes, providing complex administrative support to the City Council, City Manager, and Assistant City Manager, and supervising administrative and clerical staff. This position requires exceptional leadership, judgment, discretion, and organizational skills, as well as extensive knowledge of municipal governance, public policy, and the role of an elected City Council. The City Clerk must work with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with elected officials, staff, agencies, and the public. Key responsibilities include: ~Managing official and confidential records in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. ~Overseeing staff, budgets, and office operations. ~Preparing and editing reports, ordinances, and resolutions. ~Ensuring compliance with the California Public Records Act, Government and Elections Codes, Ralph M. Benefits COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary: $170,144.00 - $204,131.20 Annually The City offers an outstanding benefits package that includes:   ~Health Insurance:  The City contributes the following amounts to employee health and welfare benefits: ~Employee only: $932 ~Employee + 1 dependent: $1,862 ~Employee + 2 or more dependents: $2,460  If employee declines all medical insurance with the City, employee may receive up to $450 cash in lieu per month. If employee participates in the cafeteria plan, but does not utilize the full benefit, employee will receive up to $450 “cash-back” per month. Any cash back will be paid to the employee in taxable compensation. Proof of medical insurance is required. ~Remote Work Policy: Considered after probationary period ~Retirement: CalPERS 2.5% @ 55 for Classic members or 2.0% @ 62 for New PEPRA members. The City does not participate in Social Security. The City participates in Medicare. ~General Leave: 184 to 264 hours of general leave accrual each year, depending on length of service. Up to 80 hours of general leave may be converted to pay per fiscal year.  ~Management Leave: Up to 56 hours per fiscal year. ~Holidays: 14 paid holidays per year. ~Deferred Compensation:Voluntary participation. ~Life Insurance:City-paid $50,000 policy. ~Educational Reimbursement: Up to $10,000 lifetime benefit ~Long-term and Short-term Disability:Voluntary participation. ~Health Allowance: $100/month ~Wellness: On-site bicycle lockers, and employee wellness activities such as workshops, fitness challenges, and informal meetings. ~Health & Fitness:Employees and eligible family members have free use of the gym, exercise equipment and aquatic facilities at the Silliman Activity and Family Aquatic Center, as well as resident rates for classes and rentals  You may review the Compensation and Benefit Plan on our website for additional details:   Special Instructions An application and resume must be submitted through CalOpps by Sept.4th, 2025 at 5:00p.m. to be considered.
